quilted throws and bedspreads.
From lightweight cotton layers to supersoft merino lambswool, the collection includes timeless textures and versatile sizes for bedrooms, living spaces, travel and gifting.
Cotton blankets are breathable, easy to layer and useful throughout the year. Wool offers natural insulation with a warm yet breathable feel, making it ideal for cooler bedrooms, fireside comfort and outdoor evenings. Use a smaller throw as a decorative layer over the foot of a bed or the arm of a sofa. For generous coverage, check the blanket dimensions against your mattress and decide how much fabric you would like to drape at each side. Layer a textured cotton throw over crisp bed linen in warmer months, then introduce wool when the temperature falls. Neutral shades create a calm foundation, while stripes, colour and stitched finishes add character. Durable weaves and timeless finishes make these layers useful in private homes, guest rooms and hospitality settings. Buyers furnishing commercial spaces can also explore our dedicated hotel blankets and throws. Frequently asked questions about blankets & throws
Answers on materials, weaves, sizing, care and delivery to help you choose the right luxury blanket or throw for your bed, sofa or guest room.
What is the difference between a blanket and a throw?
A blanket is usually large enough to cover the top of a bed and is used as a warm layer over sheets or a duvet. A throw is generally smaller and more decorative, folded across the foot of a bed or draped over a sofa or armchair. Many of our designs are made as both blankets and throws, so you can match a bed layer and a sofa throw in the same style.
Which is warmer, a cotton or a wool blanket?
Wool is the warmer choice. Its natural crimp traps air, so a wool blanket holds in heat while still letting moisture escape, which helps you feel cosy rather than stuffy. Cotton is lighter and cooler, making it ideal for warm sleepers, summer nights and year-round layering. For softness as well as warmth, try the Kendal supersoft merino lambswool throw, or compare our wool blankets and throws with our cotton blankets and throws.
What are waffle, herringbone and matelassé weaves?
These names describe how the cotton is woven, which gives each blanket its texture. A waffle weave has a raised honeycomb grid that feels light and airy, as seen in our Portofino cotton waffle blankets and throws. Herringbone is a tailored zigzag pattern, and our Lisbon herringbone blanket and throw is finished with a hem stitch edge. Matelassé is woven to create a padded, quilted look without any filling, like the Kensington floral matelassé throw. Our cottons are woven by our expert team in Portugal.
What size blanket do I need for a double, king or super king bed?
Measure the width and length of your mattress, then add the drop you would like on each side and at the foot. A blanket that tucks in or falls generously over the edges should be noticeably wider than the mattress, while a throw used as an accent across the foot of the bed can be close to the mattress width. Each product lists its exact dimensions, and our blanket and throw size guide explains how to choose.
Can a quilted throw be used as a bedspread?
Yes. A quilted throw adds structure and a lighter layer of warmth, and can cover the whole bed as a bedspread or be folded across the foot for a neat, hotel-style finish. Our Grosvenor quilted bedspreads have matching cushion covers, or you can browse the full range of quilted throws and bedspreads.
What is a wool wrap or serape?
A wrap or serape is a generous piece of pure wool that can be worn around the shoulders, used as a travel wrap or laid over your knees as a lap blanket. It is a versatile layer for chilly evenings, outdoor dining and long journeys. Explore our pure wool wraps, ponchos and serapes.
How do I care for cotton and wool blankets?
Always check the care label on your individual product. Selected cotton blankets and throws can be washed at 30°C, which helps protect the fibres and colour. Wool, lambswool and cashmere need gentler care, and some may specify professional dry cleaning. Between cleans, airing wool on a dry day and spot cleaning small marks keeps it fresh and reduces how often it needs washing.
Can blankets and throws be personalised?
Yes. Selected blankets, throws and wraps can be embroidered with a name or initials, making them a memorable wedding, anniversary or housewarming gift. Browse our personalised blankets and wraps, read our personalisation and embroidery guide, or find more ideas in gifts for the home.
