Blanket guide: materials, warmth, sizing and styling
Cotton or wool?
Cotton blankets are breathable and useful for flexible year-round layering. Wool offers natural insulation with a warm yet breathable feel, making it a strong choice for cooler bedrooms, fireside comfort and outdoor evenings.
Choose the right size
Use a smaller throw as a decorative layer or choose a larger blanket for more generous coverage. Compare the product dimensions with the bed or sofa and decide how much drape you want at each side.
Layer through the seasons
A textured cotton throw works well over crisp bed linen in warmer months, while wool can add extra warmth when temperatures fall. Layering lets you adjust comfort without changing the whole room.
Style with texture and colour
Neutral shades create a calm foundation, while stripes, stitching and stronger colours add character. Choose a finish that complements the bed linen, upholstery and other textiles already in the space.

Frequently asked questions about duvet covers & bedding sets
Answers on sateen and percale, thread count, sizing, care and delivery to help you choose luxury cotton bedding for a better night's sleep.
What is the difference between a duvet cover and a duvet set?
A duvet cover is the removable case that protects your duvet, while a duvet set usually pairs a cover with matching pillowcases. We sell our duvet covers and pillowcases separately, so you can choose the exact sizes and number of pillowcases you need to build your own luxury bedding set. Add matching cotton pillowcases, deep fitted sheets and flat sheets for a complete, coordinated bed.
Should I choose sateen or percale bedding?
It comes down to how you like your bed to feel. Sateen is woven with more yarn on the surface, giving a smooth, soft finish with a subtle sheen that feels warmer and is easier to iron, which is why boutique hotels favour it. Percale has a one-over, one-under weave that feels crisp, cool and matt, making it ideal for warm sleepers. Try our Brooklyn 300TC cotton sateen duvet cover or the Vermont 200TC organic cotton percale duvet cover, or read our guide to choosing your bed linen.
Does a higher thread count mean better bedding?
Not always. Thread count is the number of threads woven into a square inch of fabric, but the quality of the cotton matters more. A better fibre at a lower thread count will feel softer and last longer than a poorer fibre at a higher one. Our 300 thread count Egyptian cotton sateen is woven from a slightly thicker yarn than you usually find on the high street, so it feels substantial and stands up well to regular washing.
What size duvet cover do I need for a king size bed?
Choose your duvet cover to match your duvet rather than your mattress. Our standard sizes are single (140 x 200cm), double (200 x 200cm), king (230 x 220cm), super king (260 x 220cm) and emperor (290 x 235cm). If you have a king size bed and would like a more generous drape over the sides, a super king duvet and cover is a good option. Check each product for available sizes and see our size guide.
Is Egyptian cotton or organic cotton bedding better?
Both make beautiful bedding, so choose based on feel and values. Egyptian cotton is known for its long fibres, which spin into a smooth, strong yarn with a soft handle, as in our 300TC sateen ranges. Organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, and our organic cotton is GOTS approved. Learn more on our materials and certifications page.
Do you have green and white or coloured bedding?
Yes. Our Lexington 300TC sateen bedding has a twin row of satin stitch embroidery in a contrasting colour, including olive green and white, navy and white, black, pale blue, pale pink, fuchsia pink, silver grey and latte, as well as an all-white version. Matching Oxford pillowcases are available with the same two-line detail, so you can mix colours across the bed.
How should I wash cotton duvet covers?
Our cotton duvet covers are machine washable, but always follow the care label on each product. Use a mild detergent, avoid overloading the drum and remove the cover promptly to reduce creasing. Sateen is easier to iron than percale, while percale looks its crispest when ironed slightly damp. Our guide to caring for your bed linen has more tips.
Can I personalise my bed linen?
Yes. Our monogrammed 300TC sateen bed linen can be embroidered on duvet covers and Oxford pillowcases, and is a popular choice for wedding lists. Browse all our personalised bed linen or read our personalisation and embroidery guide.
Do you supply bed linen for hotels?
Yes. Our sateen bedding is robust enough for commercial laundering and is chosen by hotels, guest houses, yachts and interior designers. Browse our hotel duvet covers and hotel bed linen, or request a trade account to discuss larger orders.
Do you offer free delivery on bed linen?
Yes. Standard delivery to Mainland UK is free on full-price orders over £100. Personalised and monogrammed bed linen is usually despatched in around 10 days, so please check our delivery and returns information for current timescales and our returns policy before ordering.
