Ingredients

  • 50g Butter
  • 225 Self-raising flour
  • 25g Caster sugar
  • 150ml Milk
  • 1 egg - Beaten

Cooking time - 20 mins
Oven 220°C

Method

Rub the butter into the flour, then stir in the sugar and pour in the milk. Stir with a knife to form a slightly sticky dough then roll lightly in flour.

Roll out to about 3cm thick and cut out scones with a cutter or even an upturned water glass or mug will do. You should get about 8 scones from the dough.

Place each scone on a greased baking tray, brush with beaten egg and then put into a hot oven to cook for around 20 minutes. They are ready when you tap the base of the scone and it sounds hollow.

Serve warm or cooled with butter, jam and cream.
